Cycling in mid Wales

For road cyclists there are a number of routes available to explore the Llanidloes area:

Route 81: Lôn Cambria crosses the heart of Mid Wales between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury. Distance: 113 miles

Route 8: Lon Las Cymru – North (Builth Wells to Holyhead via Llanidloes, Machynlleth, Criccieth, Caernarfon and Bangor.) Distance: 175 miles.

A number of local, attractive routes have also been established:
1. Hafren Forest and Llyn Clywedog (18 miles)
2. Machynlleth Mountain Road (42 miles)
3. River to Mountains (11 miles)
4. The Four Saints Rides (Full ride: 42 miles)
5. Seven valleys ride (13 miles)
6. Severn (Hafren) Valley Short Loop (4.5 miles)
7. The Severn (Hafren) River Loop (7 miles)

Off-road Cycling

Off-road cycling is allowed on forest roads and bridleways within the Hafren Forest.

Mountain biking is not permitted along Permissive Walks, like the Severn Way and Wye Valley Walk, and Forest Walks like the boardwalk.

For a really great mountain-biking experience, why not use Llanidloes as your base then try the world class mountain biking available less than half an hour away at Bwlch Nant yr Arian where you can try the Syfydrin, Pendarn & Summit Trails?

Similarly, a short drive to the nearby market town of Machynlleth will allow you to tackle the Mach 1, 2 & 3 cross country routes or the 15km-round Climachx bike trail
